All of Medela’s breast pumps have the two-phase expression to mimic your baby’s sucking pattern. They start out with the short, quick sucking phase to get the milk to let down and then cycle to the longer, stroking phase. This is similar to the baby latching on and going “suck, suck, suck” and when the milk lets down to “suck-gulp, suck-gulp, suck-gulp.”

The Freestyle® is one of Medela’s newest double electric pumps. The motor is separate and fits in your hand. It can be clipped to your belt while using the rechargeable battery or plugged into an outlet. The Freestyle has bands to attach to your bra so you can be hands free while using this pump. It also has the advantage of being smaller and more compact than the other Medela pumps but also includes a bag for all the accessories in addition to the cooler.
The Pump In Style® Advanced Backpack lets you carry your pump on your back if your hands are already full with a diaper bag, purse or car seat. Includes all the accessories you will need: 4 bottles, one nipple, breastshields and tubing along with a cooler with an ice pack. The one accessory that can be purchased separately is the adapter to plug into your car lighter.
NEW! Pump In Style® Advanced – On-the-go Tote is a daily use electric double pump with an adjustable speed/vacuum that lets mom choose her most comfortable setting.
Includes a cooler bag with ice pack and battery pack. The microfiber tote has helpful storage pockets for organization and a convenient integrated work surface for mom.
The Pump In Style® Advanced – The Metro™ Bag is larger than the Pump In Style On-the-go Tote and has more room for storage of diapers, blankets, etc. The motor comes in a separate compartment where as the motor is built into the bag with the Pump In Style. This bag gives you more versatility and portability. You can use this larger bag for other purposes such as a diaper bag or for taking to the beach! Cooler included.
Medela’s single electric pump is the Swing™. It can be plugged into an outlet or be portable by using batteries. It is much quieter than their older mini electric pump and has the advantage of the 2 phase expression. Both the Harmony, Medela’s manual pump, and the Swing have the Soft Fit breastshield instead of a hard plastic version.

The Symphony® breastpump is available to rent. It is the newest hospital grade double electric pump by Medela. The Symphony is the pump most hospitals have available to use and is the best choice for moms that are pumping for a premature infant or those dealing with milk supply issues. Even moms with a brand new Pump In Style say the Symphony is a far superior pump. Since it has a larger, more effective motor, it can help you pump more milk over a shorter period of time.
